CHA's 6th Annual Owner Symposium 2013 Recap

On Saturday, October 12, 2013, more than 900 property owners and managers and over 50 exhibitors attended the CHA 6th Annual Owner Symposium located at Chicago's Historic Navy Pier – our highest attendance rate yet!

Registered guests attended over 14 workshops offered this year, broken out into three different sessions throughout the day. Property owners and managers learned about various topics, including eviction processes, inspections, bed bug detection and treatment, HUD compliancy, energy efficiency and more.

The Luncheon was held in Navy Pier's Grand Ballroom, where property owners and managers enjoyed lunch and speeches delivered by CHA Chief Housing Officer Ellen Sahli, CHA HCV Program Director Deonna Wheeler, and this year's Keynote Speaker John G. Markowski, President of the Community Investment Corporation (CIC).

Property owners and managers who attended the event also entered for a chance to win various noteworthy raffle prizes throughout the day, such as retail gift cards and mobile tablets.

Thank you for your interest in covering the Chicago Housing Authority's (CHA) Owner Symposium. The Owner Symposium is CHAs annual educational event. It brings property owners and managers from across the city of Chicago, providing breakout sessions on matters related to property management and the Housing Choice Voucher Program.

We welcome and encourage news media to attend and participate in this annual Symposium. Press releases and coverage of the event will be posted regularly.

Press Registration

To register as press, journalists must present media identification or a business card issued by a recognized news organization or publication. Freelance journalists must present a letter of assignment on letterhead from a recognized news organization or publication, and a business card.

Journalists must have appropriate press credentials (i.e., proof of an editorial assignment) in order to register and the publication must meet the following criteria:

  • The publication must have a regular editorial news section

Journalists reporting for online media outlets (including blogs, twitter accounts, etc.) who wish to register as press must work for news-making organizations or private blogs that meet the following criteria:

  • The website must provide original, editorial news coverage
  • Editorial content must be independent of advertising and sponsorship
  • Advertising on the website must be clearly identifiable as such
  • Any sponsors of the website should be clearly identified as such and should be multiple in number (i.e., no single-sponsored websites)
  • Any personal blog or twitter account pass is subject to review by the CHA Communications Department

Journalists who are pre-registered should proceed to the main registration area. There will be a designated press registration booth where they can pick up their badge.

The Symposium provides complimentary registration to professional journalists representing media organizations for the express purpose of gathering news and information to produce editorial coverage of the meeting.

Advance Press Registration is required. Valid credentials are required of every journalist in order to complete registration. These credentials include an official press identification (business card, press pass, etc.) or a letter of assignment.
